Our Other Life

Hey guys! Today we want to let you in on a little secret...
For the past few months, we've been moonlighting as interns over at Shabby Apple
If you haven't heard of Shabby Apple, well... you've been missing out.
It's only home to the most adorable vintage-inspired, modest clothing. Like this:
and this:

But hey, we can talk about how cute the clothes are allllll day long.
Right now we want to talk about the internship. We need to let you know that we have a life outside of blogging (sorta).

Jump on the Hottie Train!

The above pictures you see comprise the highly skilled PR interns of Shabby Apple
We look pretty cool, right?
Interning has been really rewarding for us scholastically, blogging-ly, metaphorically, physically, meta-physically... you get the picture.

So, what do we do at this internship?
Well...we do a lot of stuff.
According to the website, our role as interns is as follows:
"Guest blogging, article writing, photo shoots, spreading the good Shabby Apple word through sophisticated public relations and working with amazing people!
Not to mention a fabulous free dress when you're done and a killer letter of recommendation. Some interns aren't satisfied with just making the world better dressed and they get college credit for a business, marketing, PR, fashion, or other internship."

And guess what..We are looking for interns right now!
So if this internship sounds like something you are interested in, and you live in Utah, contact the team over at intern@shabbyapple.com or contact us for more details.

If your not into the whole PR thing, there are many more internship opportunities Shabby Apple offers!
Looky here for other available internships.

**Maybe we should just address the elephant in the room to some of you reading this:
If there was ever a time when you got an email from Shabby Apple and it was from a Lauren or Madison,
It was probably us...
Okay, it was most definitely us.
Surprise! (aka please don't be creeped out)

Have a lovely weekend!

June Sponsor Spotlight!

Hey guys!
Today, we want to introduce you to the sweet ladies that have been sponsoring us for the past month! Since it's summer time, and living is easy, we figured we'd ask em what they're most looking forward to this summer! Mostly so we can live vicariously through them because their lives are 10 times more interesting than ours. Is that so wrong?

Meet Meagan from
"The Egg is a personal lifestyle blog about living in a gorgeous mountain town. Based in Jackson Hole, it features local cuisine, mountainista fashion, crazy adventures and my personal travels around the world!  I'm constantly snapping photos and sharing the beauty of this laid back and fun mountain life that I live.  Stop by and say hello!!"

What I'm Looking Forward to this Summer:
Surprising my mom for her 60th birthday down in Florida.  My brothers and I booked flights and she has no clue.  Twenty bucks she faints when she sees us!

Meet Holly from
Hello! I'm Holly Sweetman, I am a personal trainer by trade but every free second I have I put into my baby, my blog Scuttle.
Scuttle is a fashion & lifestyle blog based in hot Atlanta that celebrates everything from fashion & shopping to travel & tasty food. It is a little mix-match of everything but with ALOT of fashion thrown in. I post about all the things that I love & that inspire me, whether that be Prada's line of car themed shoes or a tasty macaroon at a local bakery in Atlanta.
My hope is to inspire others to live a life full of the art that we are surrounded with every day, the art that you eat & wear!

What I'm Looking Forward to this Summer:
I have a trip planned to Vegas in August & I can't wait for it! It is a week with all of my best friends. We hardly ever see each other & we are all flying in from all over North America to spend a week together! It will be some of the best days of the year!

Meet Anna from
Hey I'm Anna and I blog over at Anna Apricot. I am a college student who loves to have fun. I adore traveling and hanging out with my friends. My blog is basically about my whole life. I write about anything and everything. I love blogging and being able to share my experiences. Hopefully you will go check out my blog!

What I'm Looking Forward to this Summer:
I am most looking forward to me trip to california and DISNEYLAND!!!

Meet Bibi from
Hello Awkward readers!  I'm excited to introduce Tela Clothing! I, Bibi,  always know how to find the best deal as an avid thrifter and aspiring seamstress (the extent of my skills currently only include a semi-straight stitch), but I wanted to find the happy medium between boutique style and large box store prices so I decided to create it.  Tela Clothing was born to offer young women affordable style with modern charm. Friends of Tela located in the Northern California keep Tela local by taking advantage of the opportunity to host a Pop Up Shop in their very own home!

What I'm Looking Forward to this Summer:
I am looking forward to wearing dresses without tights this summer but I do not look forward to shaving my legs.

Meet Alycia from
After living in California for 8 years, we finally moved back to the east coast. It feels good to be home!
I blog mainly about life, books, my attempts at gardening, and my dogs. I also like to browse Etsy and Pinterest on a regular, time-sucking basis.

What I'm Looking Forward to this Summer:
I'm looking forward to getting settled in our new home and having family and friends over to visit us! Also, I'm hoping to start a small veggie garden

Meet Cecilia from
Hello lovely Awkward Girl readers, my name is Cecilia and I’m the girl behind Dearest Lou. I blog about thrifty fashion, newlywed life, and everything in between.  We have recently announced our pregnancy for the entire world to read and I’ll be blogging a lot about this little one on the way, along with pregnancy fashion tips. Come on by and say hello, I love making new friends (:

What I'm Looking Forward to this Summer:
I'm really looking forward to feeling my baby move and seeing my bump grow!

Meet Shannon from
Hi Urrrybody!  My name is Shannon and I run the mad-house over at GBO Fashion - a blog about personal style, fashion tips, and occasionally other junk.  Things I love: peanut butter, space heaters, cookies, thrift store scores, honey bunches of oats, my dreamboat husband, and the adorable Awkward Girls (duh). I hate: brushing my teeth, when my underwear feels too tight, when Costco is out of samples, bugs, and when my love handles start to tell me to limit my cookie consumption. This summer I'm looking forward to exploring San Francisco - my new home! Come over and party (and rate outfits) at GBO Fashion!  Woot Woot!

We Likey Wednesday

Girl Crush:  Ginnifer Goodwin
So Madison may or may not have this weird obsession with Once Upon a Time.
And also considered getting a pixie cut because of how cute Ginnifer Goodwin looks in one.
But don't worry, she didn't.

Boy Crush: The Avett Brothers
Just a couple of beautifully bearded gentleman who can sing blue grass like no other.
And their actually brothers, so we can each have one.
A win-win situation, really.

Flava of the Week: S'mores + Graham Rice Krispie Treats
This is definitely on our "need to bake when we're feeling domestic" list.
It doesn't happen that often, but when it does, this will be devoured.

We know, your salivating right now, right?

We Want: Overalls
Okay, so you're probably thinking, "those are for 5 year olds."
Before you judge us, think not only of the functionality of overalls, but look how cut they can be styled!
Blouses, wedges, striped t-shirts, so many options!
Like an overall dress.. how cute is that? We die.

Tunes: BoB ft. Taylor Swift "Both of Us"
We love Taylor Swift. We wont deny it.
And now she's getting all hip-hoppy.
That's cool Taylor, we don't mind. Keep doin' your thing.

Funnies: Suri's Burn Book
Suri Cruz's commentary on life, and the lives of those fortunate enough to be in her presence.
You'll find yourself scrolling for hours and not even realize it.

Sponsor Love: The Secret Life of Bee

Hey guys! We're so excited to bring you another Q&A sesh with one of our lovely sponsors! Today, we have the ever-so-lovely Bri from The Secret Life of Bee. We've been huge fans of Bri for a while now. On her blog, you'll find glimpses of her awesome vintage style, cute married life, and INCREDIBLE photography. Seriously we could look through her pics all day. In the least creepy way possible...
We hope you're in as much love as we are. Be sure to check out Bri's blog, The Secret Life of Bee

PS. We're still looking for a few more medium and small sponsors for the month of July. Email us at awkwardgirls2@gmail.com if you're interested!

Best Friend Problems

So today, we'd like to talk about something pretty important.
It can really make a break a best friend relationship.
We're all thinking it...
Matching.
Photobucket
shirt: nordstrom, skirt & purse: thrifted, necklace: hm, shoes: dsw
Photobucket
shirt: f21, shorts: jcrew, necklace: hm, shoes: bass via macy's
So yes, we are wearing the same necklace (Lauren wanted to let you know she bought it first).
But you know what they say...

Friends that match, last a batch-
load of years.

(or maybe that's just what we say...?)

We Likey Wednesday

Girl Crush: Kiernan Shipka

Kiernan Shipka, who plays Don Draper's sassy daughter on Mad Men, has officially joined the likes of Elle Fanning and Chloe Moretz as a child fashion prodigy.

Yeah. She's twelve.

Boy Crush: Sufjan Stevens
He has a voice to calm a crying baby, and lyrics to make a grown woman cry.

Or make that two grown women.

Flava of the Week: Piñon Market and Cafe

We finally ventured outside of our usual burgers and Panda Express to finally try something new in Salt Lake! Hurray for us! Piñon (best pronounced in a hotsie-totsie French accent for optimum pretentiousness) has the best sandwiches served on the most amazing focaccia bread. You have to try it to believe it.

ps. We're in Salt Lake at least once a week, so if you're from the area, we're always open restaurant recommendations!

We Want: Boater Hats

Boater Hats = This year's fedora, but with less Jason Mraz and more county fair.
Does that make sense?

Tunes: Jayme Dee, "Rules"
Don't judge us, but we watched Hunger Games again last night. In the regular theater, not even the dollar theater. That being said, we will probably watch it in the dollar theater when it goes there too.
So in honor of how much we love that series, here's one of our favorite songs from the soundtrack.

Funnies: Cat Massage

Still trying to figure out why this is so funny to us. Maybe it will be funny to you too?
Or maybe we're just creepy.

Pictures and a Playlist

top: ae, jeans: f21, shoes: bass via macy's, necklace: nordstrom
top: anthro, pants: hm, shoes: nordstrom
Happy Monday!
We hope everyone had a great Father's Day and showed their dads some well-deserved love!
We were sad to celebrate our Father's Day from 600 miles away, but thank goodness for Skype huh?
Summer Funner by lolonienie on Grooveshark
Today we made a simple little summer playlist of all the songs we've been listening to lately.
For optimum listening experience, we recommend high volumes, windows rolled down, hair in the wind, and voices loud and out of key.

Insta-Life: In our neck of the woods.

What? There's not a double suburban strolling around your hood?
We like nature and stuffs.
Spike headbands. The new thang.
Locked out of your apartment? Natalie can jimmy the screen off your window and break you in. No biggie.
Falling asleep+ friends stealing your phone= ultimate shame.
Tighty Willis and the Friends Forever Band. We likey.
Say hello to Lauren's newest  nephew, baby Jackson!

We Likey Wednesday

Girl Crush: Mary Kate and Ashley

It's no secret on this blog that we're more than obsessed with the Olsens. More than obsessed, less than healthy. But whatever. Look at them! Ultimate girl crushes.
(okay, now we've probably sufficiently creeped you out.)
Today is the blessed day that they were born, so we had to honor them.

Happy Birthday MK+A!
We also want to dedicate THIS song to you.

Boy Crush:  Drake/Aubrey Graham
Last name: Ever. First name: Hottest.
Drake, our love for you has transcended time. We loved you when you were basketball Jimmy on Degrassi. Then we loved you when you were wheelchair Jimmy.  And we loved you when we first saw a picture of you as Drake and thought, "Hey, that guy looks like wheelchair Jimmy from Degrassi."

And we still do.

Flava of the Week: Muddy Buddies
So it's possible we have eaten Muddy Buddies for actual meals on more than one occasion this week.
These things are like crack. Not that we know what crack is like.

We Want: Jean Vests

We have realized that jean jackets/shirts are always in style. Always.
But what happens when it's too hot outside to wear them?
Cut the sleeves off. Duh.
And look pretty bad-A while doing it.

Tunes: Florence and the Machine, "Shake it Out"
This song has been the anthem of empowerment in our lives for the last couple of weeks.
So good!

So this is more cute than funny, but we had to share.
They might as well rename it, Babies That Dress Better Than You.
