All Tied Up

top: thrifted, skirt: made by madison (fabric and pattern from JoAnn), shoes: jeffrey campbells, necklace: anthro
top: gap, skirt: thrifted, necklace: ae, bracelet: f21, shoes: payless
We've been really into tying our shirts lately. It's so summery.
It also just might be our inner 90's kid coming out to play.

Either way, we dig it.
(We're into 90's lingo too.)

Have a sweet Saturday!

PS. Our Shabby Apple giveaway ends tonight so be sure to enter if you haven't already!

Clinton Kelly Fashion Show

Hey homies. It's us again.

We said we would give you more details about the Clinton Kelly fashion show Lauren worked at last week. So that's what we're doing today.
From Lauren's perspective: A stylist, Alicia Richmond came to my class to give a presentation and asked us if any of us would be interested in helping with a fashion show, that just so happened to be hosted by none other than Clinton Kelly. Yes, THE Clinton Kelly from What Not to Wear, which is the very thing that sparked my interest in fashion. So obviously my answer was yes. My job at the show was to be a dresser, which basically meant I helped dress a model during the outfit changes, and kept the clothes nice and organized. I can't say that I did much, besides help people put clothes on and fumble over my words while trying to talk to Clinton, but I did get to ask him for some advice on becoming a stylist.

Some mental notes I took:
1. He said that there was 2 kinds of styling. Styling for models, and styling for real people. He said he's done both, but styling models gets boring. He definitely prefers styling real people.

2. When styling real women, he has to be led by a gut feeling rather than some style rulebook. You'll style so many different types of bodies, and learn that not all trends work for every body.

3. The best way to grow as a stylist is to keep doing it, and try to dress all kinds of bodies and personalities.

4. Learning how sew and make clothes will help you understand dressing and fit as well. (sidenote: We've done that. He's totally right.)

I had an existential full circle moment when I realized I was listening to life advice from Clinton Kelly and it. was. awesome.

Macy's was also awesome to work with. Since we helped, we got a bunch of Macy's gift cards and they also gave us a copy of Clinton's book, Oh No She Didn't (Which is SO funny, by the way).
Yeah, we're gonna go hang out later.
All the models and stylists
Pre-show set up stuff

Since I was backstage I didn't actually get to watch the show, but I found some great pictures and decent rundown here. If you were there and have some more pictures, let me know!

Basically it was the best day ever. The end.

We Likey Wednesday

Girl Crush: Rooney Mara
Rooney Mara is kind of like that cool, older girl in high school that you both admire and are terribly afraid of because she might beat you up. But let's be honest, she has a pretty impeccable style and an unconventional approach to beauty.

Boy Crushes: One Direction
Whaaaaat?
Okay. Every girl is entitled to guilty pleasures. One Direction takes us back to our old boy band days (let's not pretend that we didn't have N*SYNC and BSB posters plastered all over our walls growing up).
Can you blame us though? They're just so cute and well dressed!
And they're all legal. So this isn't creepy.
We checked.

Flava of the Week: Salt City Burger Co.

We went here over the weekend for graduation celebrations. And it was gooooood.
Look at that burger. Do we even need to say more?

We Want: Sunglasses
via
via
We're loving these cute vintage style sunglasses right now. Now if only the Utah sun will decide to stay out for longer than a few days at a time.

Tunes: Army of 3, "We Found Love" (Rihanna Cover)
Really this is just Ingrid Michelson's new project. But we're kind of obsessed with this Rihanna song, and even more obsessed when it's a capella.

Funnies: Tom Haverford
To celebrate the return of Parks and Recreation from its midseason break, we decided to compile some of our favorite Tom Haverford moments.

Recap

dress: anthro, top: thrifted, shoes: uo, belt: f21
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey guys!
These past few weeks have been cray cray busy.  The finals came and went. Some good, some not so good  (let's just not talk about it...).
But since then, Madison took a trip to Wisconsin where she ate lots of cheese and partied with her (locally) famous news reporter sister.

Meanwhile, Lauren was being a fashion stylist to the stahhhhhhhhhs (stars), which really meant she helped out with a fashion show at the Macy's at the new City Creek mall in SLC. But, she got to work with Clinton Kelly from What Not to Wear! Childhood dream fulfilled? Definitely. More about that to come!

Welp, see ya guys later. We just started Zumba today and we smell really bad so we're totes gonna go shower. Love you!

Too soon?

No way.

Style Ruts and a Mini Photoshoot

top: jcrew, jeans: ross, shoes: seychelles, scarf: thrifted
shirts/shoes: f21, jeans: levi's, necklace: ae
Have you guys ever felt like you're in a style rut? Like you go through periods of time when you never really know what to wear anymore?
That's how we've been feeling lately. We like to blame finals for frying our brains.
When that happens, we always go back to our button downs. ALWAYS.
Maybe we even wear two at a time for added effect.

What's your style go to? We need some style rut inspiration.

Also, these pictures were taken by our sweet photographer friend, Lizzy. She even captured some nice pics of us, since we're always in short supply of pictures of us together. Whenever we take pics together, they end up looking like engagement pictures. But what can you do?

See what we mean? Engagements.

PS. Sorry for our lack of blogging lately. Madison is in Wiscahhhhnson. We'll be back in action soon enough though.

We Likey Wednesday

Girl Crush: Lilly Collins

Do you like Phil Collins? Do you like daughters of Phil Collins? Particularly daughters that are cute and dress well...of Phil Collins?

We know. So do we.

Boy Crush: Hugh Dancy
What? Why haven't we talked about him yet?
It's mind bottling, really.
No one looks better in a suit than Hugh Dancy. No one.

Flava of the Week: Maple Donuts {via BYU Sugar n' Spice}

Every time we go to the library to study, we somehow end up here.
We're not mad about it.

We Want: Lady Ties

We just came across this cute Etsy shop, Flappergirl and they have all these cute little neckties for girls.
You know how much we love being slightly androgynous...

Tunes: Benjamin Francis Leftwich, "Atlas Hands"

Cute little boy: Check.
Whimsical props: Check.
Braids: Check.
Beautiful song: Double check.

Funnies: SNL- Gotye Backstage

We've all seen that Gotye video, right? Well this makes us giggle.
Also, Halloween costume inspiration anyone?

Crunch Time

sweater: f21, skirt: made by lauren (fabric and pattern from Joann's), belt: target, boots: lucky via nordy's
top: f21, dress: anthro, socks: target, shoes: bass
Sorry our blogging has been a little spotty this week. It's that dreaded time of the semester again.
Finals... again.
Why does it feel like we just had finals?
Mysteries of the world we'll never know the answer to. A couple more days and it's sweet freedom once again.
In the mean time, we'll be in the library hating our lives having so much fun.

We Likey Wednesday

Just a little reminder to enter our ECO SWIM giveaway! It ends this Saturday, the 14th!

Girl Crush: Kelly Kapoor/ Mindy Kaling

We definitely miss The old Office, but Kelly is just one of those characters that will never change.
"Fashion show, fashion show, fashion show at lunch!"

This is probably one of our favor Kelly moments.

Boy Crush: Adam Levine

Maybe it's his muscles, the tats, that smoldering look like he's peering into our souls,
or that he has a sexy-man-falsetto-voice. Whatever it is, we like what we see. We're not ashamed to admit we watch The Voice solely for him. Not one bit.

Flava of the Week:  Jimmy John's

Okay, so we know this is kinda a cop-out since everyone likes them, but seriously.
They are always yummy.
AND we just discovered you can ask them not to scoop the bread out. Yes! More carbs, please!

We Want: Wind Breakers
Perfect for Spring when the climate is a bit unpredictable (i.e., when having to deal with bipolar Utah weather).
Color blocking:  Check.

Chambray. This is seriously the perfect staple jacket. Saving up for this!

Tunes: Angus and Julia Stone, "Just A Boy"

This song is a tad old, but still good. Also, Madison likes to sing it in a high-pitched, baby voice to Lauren whilst she sleeps.
It's not creepy-- it's love.

Funnies: Kyle Mooney, "Reptiles"

This isn't the first Kyle Mooney video we've posted...
and it won't be the last.

xoxo
